Take Care, Lance!

I am genuinely worried about Lance Armstrong’s safety in the next Tour de France.

Two years ago, Armstrong got death threats. The only thing he did was win.

Today, France is seething with anti-American sentiment, and it has a large Muslim population that would love to kill any American. A Texan who is friends with (and is vocal supporter of) President Bush will make a tempting target.

Plenty of mountain passes, surrounded by tree cover will make protecting Armstrong a nearly impossible job, even for the legendary French police. Even the greatest French law enforcement official of all time would find this job impossible.

We are in a position of having to trust French good will and good sportsmanship.

Ahem. That makes me uncomfortable.
